A theater foyer with a curved gilded staircase, red carpet and chandelier

Theaters, country clubs, event venues and houses of worship

Venue scenting for rooms that fill up all at once.

Empty for days, then hundreds of people in two hours. Venues need scent that ramps up before doors open and goes quiet when the room clears.

The short answer

How do you scent a large venue?

Large venues are scented through the HVAC, because foyers and halls are tall and the air handler is the only thing that reaches all of it. Nēbu 360's NL5000 Dual / HVAC ($1,999) holds 5 litres of oil and covers up to 180,000 cubic feet from one point on the ductwork, roughly a 9,000 sq ft foyer with 20 ft ceilings, and runs on a weekly schedule so it starts an hour before doors.

Nēbu 360, a commercial scenting company in Lake Park, Florida, installs venue systems in Palm Beach, Broward and Martin counties and ships them anywhere in the US.

Four kinds of venue

What does each type of venue need?

A historic theater lobby with arched ceilings and a brass-railed staircase

Theaters and performing arts

Foyer yes, auditorium no

Scent the lobby, bars and restrooms for arrival and intermission. Leave the auditorium unscented: people sit close together for two hours, and performers need clear air.

A country club members lounge with leather sofas overlooking the golf course

Country and golf clubs

Clubhouse, locker rooms, ballroom foyer

A clubhouse scent members recognize, a fresh scent in the men's and women's locker rooms, and the ballroom pre-function area for weddings and member events. See country club scenting.

Scheduled per event

Set a different level, or a different scent, for a gala than for a corporate breakfast. Schedules are set by day and hour from a phone app.

Houses of worship

Narthex and fellowship hall

A gentle scent in the entry and fellowship spaces, and none in the sanctuary unless your congregation chooses it. Many traditions already use incense; we work around it, not over it.

Scheduling

How do you time scent around events?

Before doors

Start 60 to 90 minutes early at a higher level, so the foyer is ready when guests arrive.

During the event

Drop to a background level once the room fills; body heat and crowd carry it.

Intermission and reception

A brief step up in bars and pre-function areas.

Dark days

Off. Oil is only spent when people are there.

Equipment and scent

Which units, which scents?

Space Unit Scents that suit it
Main foyer, ballroom pre-function, concourse NL5000, $1,999, up to 180,000 cu ft Black Tie, Paris Elegance
Clubhouse, smaller hall, chapel entry NL2500, $1,299, up to 90,000 cu ft London Majesty, Sacred Palo Santo
Bridal suite, green room, bar N250, $799, up to 42,500 cu ft Jeweled Blossom, Velvet Rouge
Restrooms and locker rooms NL360, $110, up to 400 sq ft Crisp Mint Eucalyptus

Tall rooms are easy to undersize. Enter ceiling height in the sizing tool, not just floor area.

Delivery

Installed in South Florida, shipped everywhere else.

Venues in Palm Beach, Broward and Martin counties get a survey of the mechanical room, installation on a dark day, schedules built around the event calendar and refills on a cadence. Installs usually take under 20 minutes per unit. See the service area. Venues elsewhere in the US receive units and oil with free shipping and set them up with us by phone. For venues inside hotels, see hotel scenting.

Questions

Venue managers ask.

Should a theater auditorium be scented?

Generally no. Audiences sit close together for long periods and performers need clear air, so most theaters scent the foyer, bars and restrooms and leave the auditorium unscented.

Can a church use a scent diffuser?

Many churches scent the narthex, entry and fellowship hall lightly and leave the sanctuary to their own traditions, such as incense. Choose a gentle scent, run it before and after services, and keep SDS documentation on file.

Can a wedding venue change scent for each event?

Yes. On the NL2500 and NL5000, the separated scent system means changing fragrance never requires flushing the machine, and schedules can be set per day from a phone app. Some venues keep a house scent and offer couples a choice for the reception foyer.

How much oil does a venue use?

Much less than a hotel, because the unit only runs on event days. Usage depends on the room's volume and the level, so we measure it over the first month. Nēbu 360 oil is $99 for 500 ml.
